Arasha Resort
and Spa Birds and Butterflies
Arasha Resort and Spa, located about 2 ½ hours’ drive from Quito, has hundreds of species of birds, plants and insects, making it one of the most bio-diverse places on the planet.

Over 176 of the 500 species of birds in the area can be spotted at the resort. Guided bird-watching tours in the evening and early morning can be arranged.

Or wander around the resort, exploring the many paths and trails, and you will discover birds everywhere.

Catch the staff at feeding time and they will let you interact with a parrot. Gary and his parrot, eye to eye.

Butterflies, too, are plentiful and colorful.

The staff leaves ripe bananas around to attract butterflies and it’s fun to watch them suck out the fruit with their long, thin proboscises. The feeding tube functions like a straw that the butterfly moves back and forth to extract food. Easy photo opps.
Here are a few more photos of rainforest birds and butterflies glimpsed on a recent trip there.
