A Cultural Lesson from Blanca
By Gary Phillips
One
of the joys of living in Ecuador
is the opportunity to learn about the Ecuadorian culture, and
particularly here
in Ecuador,
its colorful and distinctive indigenous culture.
Today Linda
and
I had a wonderful conversation with Blanca, our indigenous maid,
who is quickly
becoming much more than a maid to us.
She

Important
Ecuador Travel Tip
Regarding $100 Dollar Bills
Ecuador uses the American dollar as its
currency, which makes it very nice and easy for travelers. However, it's
almost impossible to
cash a $100 bill, even in a bank!
It
is equally difficult to cash traveler’s checks, unless you
are in a large chain
hotel.
Best to bring $20 bills or
smaller, and an ATM card. ATM
machines
are every where, but be aware that most only allow a $500 maximum
withdrawal
per day. Also
be sure to notify your bank
that you will be traveling in a foreign country, or they may block use of your card
for security reasons.
