Kashama, one of our favorite places in Ecuador, is a
jungle
retreat off the beaten path about thirty kilometers from the
agricultural city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados.
After
turning right off the main road from Santo Domingo to Esmeraldas,
one
arrives at a rural setting surrounded
by nature, lush plants and the
soothing sound of falling water from a dramatic waterfall plunging into
a wide pool.
Nestled all around, built into the cliffs and hugging the hillsides are charming fantasy
bungalows, connected by artful stone bridges and
walkways. Each bungalow is of a different design painted
in a
rainbow of colors.
